What do you do? Transportation Specialist

I’m a transportation specialist, so we do
all big events like we’re doing right now at the arena. We do all the regular
ed and special needs transportation for the district, getting those kids to and
from school safely. We have a real big job. We work with all of the schools, and
our safety record is amazing. We transport about 6,000 students every
day. Our district is 81 square miles, but we do have 150 routes to service our
whole district. Go ahead and send some more buses around. I started as a bus driver. I worked my way up from a driver to a trainer. I used to train other bus drivers. And then I was a field support
specialist for Laidlaw, and then I became a dispatcher, and then a position
opened up at the district. I love my job because, seeing the faces of the students
being able to get to and from school and happy when they get to school. The
drivers are the first thing the students see in the morning and the last thing
that they see when they get off the bus in the afternoon and so we have an
amazing team of people that are transporting students. And being able to
work with them and the schools, getting out and about in the field and doing big
events like we do, that all makes our job wonderful.
