Tokyo Public Transportation Tokyo has an extensive network of JR trains, subways, and Metro lines. They are inexpensive, efficient, and the fastest method of commuting around Tokyo. The JR Yamanote line aka the Green Line is a loop line around Tokyo and connects to all major areas. Buy a prepaid IC card for your convenience single ride tickets can be purchased at the ticket machines or if not if you’re not sure of your destination, buy the minimum price ticket and then use the adjustment machines at your final destination. Most stations have manned counters or gates. Ask for directions if needed. Announcements are made in Japanese and in English The Toei bus line loops around central Tokyo and are green in color. There is also the Sightseeing Bus- Tokyo Shitamachi bus which goes to many tourist sites Buses are our good for short distances. IC cards are accepted and coins, only 1,000 yen bills are accepted.
