Requirements to Become a Pilot | Flying Lessons

Hi, my name is Josh Kallenberg and I’m here
at the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles, California. I’ve been flying professionally for about
13 years, and now I have the pleasure of flying this Gulfstream G450 which is a lot of fun
and exciting. And today I’m going to talk to you about becoming
a pilot. First thing is you need to be a pilot is precised
the studying, precised the flying part of it and there are some character trades they
are found in pilots and there is one thing to think about when you are pursuing this
career or even pursuing it is a hobby and its discipline. Its being to aim to construct
with criticism. Its a[uh]. Its having, its being a personable you know
with potential passengers over the co-workers. Being able to be relax and calm under the
stressful situations. So these are all the things you know you are
in your self but the thing to think about even you are pursuing to may be work on as
you are going through these are the training. You have to be flexible with your schedules
and life styles stand in your family and friends are gonna have to be you know used some kind
of disappointment because you have to go on a flight on a moment noticed or you turn to
build time and you have to get these hours. Its really important. You have to be used to this airplane noways. Lets that go away. This is my next step where here in protection
where from the beginning absolutely. You will be thankful on the long run. Its a challenge which is great. But its not the say a headrest everybody thinks. Just go on hear my past tense.

  1. Am nearly 14 i wish to be a pilot and it's my dream and i have a flight simulator next year i will take a lessons about planes and i will join a flight youth school

  2. No sir, money here is not it, its for the passion of flying, don't choose to fly if you're in it for the money, be a pilot to fly anytime, all the time, that's why I want to be a commercial airline pilot, and I'm only 12.

  3. Dude, you and I have a lot in common, you want to be an airline pilot or fighter pilot, I want to be an airline pilot.

  4. Dude ur way off, in order to fly corporate as the guy in the video ur gonna need more than ur ppl which I already have, thats just for pleasure u can't get hired unless u obtain a cpl commercial license even then u'd have to add ratings such as multi engine and ifr which is istrument flying for poor conditions the more time u have on those the better. Also u might wanna find a way to build hours I'd suggest obtaining an instructor rating where u will teach other students and get paid to do so…

  5. That's in my opinion the best way to build flight time, most corporate and airlines nower days hire at a minimum of 1000 hours, as for big transport jets u might wanna get a atpl airline transport license, here in Canada u need at least a 1500hrs to get it. Its a long road to get there but it can be accomplished with determination & deep pockets lol good luck I'll hopefully see u at the top wen I make it myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I know you wrote this 6 months ago, but you are absolutely right. And this is why you will be a pilot! PASSION!

  7. Youre young, youll understand that money will be it when you cant afford the roof over your head.

  8. Its actually both, no need to get all smart on me. I'm well aware flight schools are expensive.

  9. Like I said, you're young, when you start learning about paying bills and paying rent, passion goes away very quickly.

  10. Okay, but who said about living solo? You could always live with your parents….and would you really be willing to put in all that hard work to be a pilot with no passion?

  11. I am one, and you plan on living with your parents forever? Reality check, parents dont support forever, there comes a time to spread your wings and fly (no pun intended) Living solo? I am doing that right now and if it weren't for the military I definetley couldn't survive on pilot pay alone. It wasn't uncommon for my flight instructors to be working second jobs, most answered phones at the airport, one worked as a bartender, the other fueled planes.

  12. I understand you're a pilot (Can tell by your pic, nice one too) but who said I was going to live with them forever? I plan to stay until my flight school is over and then get out there with an airline.

  13. Flight school to airline? You do know you need 1500 hours of flying time and an ATP (23 years old minimum age) to fly for an airline right?

  14. No need for the sarcasm, plenty of people tried the school to airline and had a rude awakening. You said in your previous comment you were going from flight school (300 hours max) to airline 1500 hours minimum plus ATP.

  15. Yes I did, and I was being brief. Of course I will go ahead and try to get 1,500 hours min plus ATP. I don't go into full detail all the time.

  16. You've told me this like 3 times now, I got it. I'll do some extra flying, in fact I'll figure it all out when the time comes. Because things change and don't always stay the same.

  17. Get in a roommate situation and accept government subsidies. A person making $20k a year can actually live about as well as a person making $35k a year because of the loss of government subsidies the person making the higher income no longer qualifies for them.

Damn the Dems, I say. I'd personally rather get paid more and pay less taxes than be subsidized, but it is what it is.

  18. Way wrong, tell me where I can live in a place like Newark or Washington D.C on those salaries and still be able to live.

  19. So I'm finding 3-bedroom apartments in Newark for $1,500 a month. Get two responsible roommates and that's $500 per month for yourself. Figure $100 for your part of the utilities and whatnot (negotiable since you won't be there much), and that leaves you a little extra spending money. Use public transportation to save on transportation costs, and use Food Stamps for all of your food needs. If you want a higher quality of life, move to Texas or some equally cheap location.

  20. So youre saying a professional pilot should live on food stamps? Genius! And moving to texas won't do jack because you still have to commute. You gonna pay for my hotels? $100 utilities is cheap and unrealistic. Throw in student loans and you have no money. There is a reason why pilots live in crashpads with 7-9 other guys. 3 people won't be enough. Maybe you should google "The LAX Ghetto". There are United Airline Pilots sleeping in the parking lots of LAX because they dont make enough.

  21. Student loans can be deferred if you're making 20k a year. Yes, like I said, swallow your pride and be subsidized by the government. The point is that you don't have to live with your parents if you're making $20k a year.

  22. Thats a loser statement to say swallow your pride, you sound like an airline manager. "Student loans can be deferred if you're making 20k a year." Yes because letting the interest rise while being slammed by deferment fees will make life and payments so much better as your pay rises.

  23. A loser statement? No, it's a realistic statement. The fact is that if a FO or Captain gets paid for these airlines what you would think is fair, many of the airlines would dissolve. Then where would we be?

  24. They would not dissolve, southwest, jetblue, fedex, and countless foreign airlines are doing just fine. Management paints the illusion that these salaries are needed or the airline who fail. As for realistic, putting a 100k student loan on deferment for it to only grow and be hammered by fees is not realistic, it is financial suicide. Just ask anyone who has done it.

  25. JetBlue is not doing so hot. Southwest is doing OK, but barely. FedEx pays their pilots well, so I'm not sure why you're bringing them up. The fact of the matter that airliners would love to be doing so well that they could afford to keep their captains and FOs on a champagne and caviar diet like they did in the 80s, but that's just not the financial climate these days.

  26. JetBlue is not doing so hot. – then explain their 4 billion in revenue.
Southwest airlines – 17 billion revenue.

Jetblue and Southwest both pay pilots well. Southwest pays above the 200k a year barrier actually.

  27. JetBlue: 4 billion in revenue and only 80 million in net profit.
Southwest: 17 billion in revenue but only 400 million in net profit.

These guys are riding the line.

  28. The point is that you don't need to go $100k in debt to be an airline pilot, even if you feel it's necessary to get a Bachelors.

  29. "even if you feel it's necessary to get a Bachelors." Like it or not, it is a requirement. Maybe you need to hear this from an actual airline pilot? Head over to askcaptainscott. Shoot him an email. Ask him if you need a bachelors degree to be an airline pilot, you may be surprised with what you hear.

  30. Regardless of whom JetBlue are hiring or firing, they are only making a 2% profit margin with SW not doing much better at just a little over 2% themselves.

  31. If they are hiring, which means spending more (training, salaries, benefits, etc). they are doing well enough. Much better then the legacies.

  32. Yeah, you don't. In Texas, (unless you want to go to LETU which is a relgious four year private school) you HAVE to do your training at a two year school then transfer to a four year school for the remainder of the time to get your degree. However, it costs me only 90K all together, so I can do it debt free. It's practically worthless to spend 240K at Embry-Riddle to get your degree, because you'll be just as competitive as everyone else. Statements made by every pilot I've met.

  33. He forgot "gullible". Most who go through pilot school training never make enough to pay there school loans. The fact is most never finish school. The school expenses go up every time you need to up your rating, LP pilot, single Private pilot, VFR, IFR, Multi, and then commercial. What is the cost to get to commercial, 50K, 100K, or 150K.

  34. A salary is too low for the responsibility I can make same money does a pilot any other job with less responsibility

  35. If you want to be a commercial pilot, ask the pilots at the airport. and make sure to tell them that you want to hear the real thing. Period

  36. Job kinda sucks to be honest. ย If I get furloughed I'm leaving the career as there is no lateral movement between companies… I will never sit reserve again on probationary pay.

  37. i want to be a pilot but i dont have money,,so sad๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜” but i dont give up,i will get that course till my death

  38. I am from Iraq and I always wanted to be a pilot and hopefully I will study aviation in America after 2 or 3 years my English is very good (except my spelling , I am working on it ) but I think it is a good dream to work on making it become true
