Local pilot attempts to break world record, land at 110 airports in honor of 9/11 victims

18 YEARS SINCE OUR COUNTRY SUFFERED THE 9/11 TERROR ATTACKS. THANKS FOR JOINING US, I’M AMY LYNN. AND I’M KASEY MARLER –TODAY AS WE TAKE TIME TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THAT TRAGEDY– ASHLEY SHARP JOINS US LIVE FROM THE ELIZABETHTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT WITH HOW A NEW WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT WILL DO JUST THAT. GOOD MORNING ASHLEY. AMY, KASEY– THE WORLD RECORD FOR MOST AIRPORTS THAT A PILOT HAS STOPPED AT IN ONE DAY RESIDES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM– TODAY– ONE LOCAL PILOT IS HOPING TO BRING THAT TITLE TO EAST TN. BUT– THERE’S A REASON BEHIND WHY HE’S TAKING FLIGHT ON SEPTEMBER 11TH– AND WHY HE’S HOPING TO MAKE A VERY SPECIFIC NUMBER OF STOPS. WHEN YOU THINK BACK TO SEPTEMBER 11– 2001– EVERYONE REMEMBERS WHERE THEY WERE WHEN THEY HEARD THE NEWS. “WE JUST COULDN’T IMAGINE THAT KIND OF THING HAPPENING HERE IN OUR COUNTRY. WE CAN BE ATTACKED, THESE THINGS CAN HAPPEN.” (TRIM) FOR DAN MOORE– A PILOT SINCE THE AGE OF 16– HE WAS GETTING READY TO TAKE FLIGHT– WHEN AIRPORTS WERE SHUT DOWN ON 9-11. “IT CHANGED HOW WE THINK ABOUT FLYING IN AIRPLANES, HOW WE LOOK AT THE WORLD AS A WHOLE AND HOW WE DEFEND OURSELVES GOING FORWARD.” FAST FORWARD FROM THAT FLIGHT– 18 YEARS AGO– CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE ATTACKS ON THE TWIN TOWERS– TO TODAY. (NATS) DAN’S FLIGHT IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO DIED THERE. SOT “EVERY SECOND COUNTS.” THE PILOT– ATTEMPTING TO BREAK A GUINESS WORLD RECORD– “THE MOST AIRPORTS VISITED IN ONE DAY WAS 87 AND I WAS LIKE, WELL I CAN BREAK THAT.” HE HOPES TO STOP AT EXACTLY 110 AIRPORTS– THE SAME NUMBER OF FLOORS IN THE TWIN TOWERS. ” I THOUGHT YOU KNOW WHAT 110 IS A MAJOR STRETCH, IT’S GONNA TAKE EVERYTHING GOING RIGHT FOR ME TO MAKE 110 AIRPORTS IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD BUT I’M GONNA TRY MY BEST.” FOR DAN– THE 18 HOUR TRIP WILL BE TAXING– BUT HE’S CONFIDENT HE CAN NOT ONLY BEAT 87 STOPS– BUT HELP PEOPLE… REMEMBER. “I’M DEFINITELY WANTING PEOPLE TO THINK, THIS HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY, AND DON’T FORGET THESE PEOPLE THAT LOST THEIR LIVES. DON’T FORGET THE PEOPLE THAT RUSHED IN TO HELP AND DON’T FORGET HOW THE COUNTRY CAME TOGETHER TO UNIFY AGAINST A COMMON ENEMY.” USING THIS FLIGHT– TO BRING SOMETHING GOOD– AFTER A FLIGHT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING ON THIS DAY IN 2001.” DAN’S FLIGHT WILL TAKE HIM THROUGHOUT TENNESSEE, KENTUCKY, VIRGINIA, NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA AND EVEN MISSISSIPPI. STAY WITH US AS WE TRACK HIS PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
